This piece is from my book 'Narratives Of A Love-A-Holic'. I know some of you have probably read it before but I figured I would share it again. It is one of my favorite poems from my first book. Enjoy!

Hi my name is _______. Insert your name here...
The meeting started, everyone is all ears...
Sitting in a circle opening up.
Speaking of addictions to this powerful drug.
This drug so potent, so powerful, so capable of changing everything about you.
The way you look, the way you think, the way you act, the way you live
The way you breathe, the way you talk, the time that you give...
Before it you were fine, life was what it was...
But oh how things changed when you were introduced to this drug.
A young woman spoke... it was her day to express...
Her feelings about a “savior” as she called it, the thing that later caused her stress.
“I never felt a high, so spiritual... I was on cloud nine...
This drug kept me focused... or maybe I was blind.
You see it got to the point where I had to have it everyday.
I needed it more than I slept.
Sadly I needed it more than I prayed.
When I took that drug so deeply in my veins...
It was my undeniable guilty pleasure and simultaneously my pain.
I didn't see what it was doing... I didn't view it as being so bad.
But one minute I'd be happy, and the next I'd be sad.
Each time I needed a fix I'd call my “Pusha Man”...
He'd give me that high again & again...
He was always there to serve me...my wish was his command.
Or at least so I thought... I thought this drug was his way to console me...
But all the while I was re-in' up it was his way to control me.
He started to tell me this drug was the only thing I needed, my means to an end...
This drug became my only joy; this drug became my only friend...
More and more I begged of him...
But one day he ran out and decided to ignore my calls...
I began to feel the effects, the horrible withdrawal.
Body shaking, mind scattered, emotions taking over, insides quaking...
This drug had me addicted... this drug had me mistaken...
So because of it I'm here in this circle of trust...
Sobering up from this drug called love... Hmm or was it lust?”
The group sat in silence as she finished her tale... no movement, no emotion,
The air was suddenly stale.
See we all have been in this circle one time or another...
We've been to rehab over a current or former lover.
Don't let it control you though... don't mistake ignorance for bliss...
